It’s a phrase I’m using more and more often now that I’m officially an adult. Well, I was an adult when I turned 20 but that’s beside the point. And I find myself saying things like ‘oh I’m totally adulting‘ or ‘I am so adulting right now‘. It’s probably annoying for those around me but I have to admit, I think it’s catching. So what are my tips for adult life?
Get Clued Up About Finances
Yes, it’s depressing but your finances are important, especially when you reach the age where you’ve started thinking about settling down, buying a house and all that jazz. Make sure you know what’s going in and out of your bank, make sure you have insurance on any valuables because I can personally vouch that something breaking and having no insurance is frustrating and expensive.
Cut Out The Fake Friends
University for me was where I fully came out of my shell and was truly myself. It’s time to cut out the fake friends from your life. Sometimes friends can just drop off the radar completely and that’s ok. We have people come in and out of life all the time so don’t get hung up on those who may not want to spend time with you anymore. You do you hun.
Focus On Your Career
It’s something that I’ve probably acknowledged with the past year or two but for me, acting isn’t panning out to be a full-time career and that’s ok because I’m that person who will find something else I’m good at and put all my energy into it. For me, that was writing. My blog and freelance writing have rocketed in the past six months and this year, I’ve nearly earned £12,000 through blogging and writing. The money is important to me because it’s going toward our future but it’s an amazing feeling when you are getting paid for doing something you don’t consider as a job, much like I was with acting.
So this is the time where you can focus on you and your career. If you’re not happy with the job you are in and you can’t see yourself continuing in the industry you are in, then fix it. It’s never too late to look elsewhere.
Remember To Make Memories
I swear to god, turning 21 seems like only yesterday but now I’m 26, I’m kind of freaking out. There’s still so much I want to do and achieve before I’m 30 that I need more time! But when you’re at this stage in your life, it’s important to continue making memories with your family and friends. Because sadly, people get old and we can’t guarantee a tomorrow so be sure you do all the things you want to do in life right now. I think I might make some sort of bucket list for my next birthday along the lines of 30 things to do before I’m 30. LOL.
