Making the Most Of Your First Trip to New York

You can say that all travel trips are fun, but there are some that are a little extra special than normal. Take New York, for instance. Is there a more iconic destination anywhere in the world? We don’t think so. And one of the best things about the city is that it doesn’t disappoint; most people find that it greatly exceeds their expectations, even if the expectations were through the roof. There are some things you can do to increase your enjoyment of the city, however, and especially if it’s your first time. We take a look at a few tried and tested tips below.

Go At the Right Time

It’s true that you can have fun in New York at any time of the year, but if you’re visiting for the first time, it’s best to go at the best time. Those periods are springtime and in the run-up towards Christmas. Of course, which one you decide is right for you will depend on various factors, such as availability and which romantic image of New York you hold (springtime goodness or winter wonderland). You’ll pay a little more than you would if you were visiting in, say, January or February, but it’ll be worth it.

Where to Stay

In order to pack in as much fun as possible during your trip, and also to feel as if you’re living the New York dream, it’s important that you think about where you’re staying. In some cities, you can stay anywhere because it’s not overly important, but that’s not the case in New York, where your hotel selection adds to the experience. Try to pick somewhere central but not overly touristy. Anywhere in Manhattan below 110th street that isn’t near Times Square will do. There are also a lot of fantastic options in Brooklyn, too, which is well connected to the highlights of Manhattan yet also has its own atmosphere.

What To Do

One of the most challenging aspects of visiting New York is figuring out what to do. After all, you could spend months there and still have things left on your bucket list. Because time is limited, it’s best to look at things to do with a sightseeing pass. This will include many of the city’s best attractions, so you’ll be naturally pushed towards experiencing the best that the city has to offer. As well as the main attractions, take a look at anything that is specifically related to your interests. New York has the best the city has to offer, so if you’re into art, food, coffee, music, or whatever else, do some research to learn about where you should go.

The Right Attitude

Finally, be sure to throw yourself into all that it has to offer! This is one of the exciting cities in the world, and sometimes it’s best to just go with the flow. Stay open, embrace the madness, and you’ll for sure end up having a trip that really lives long in the memory!
