I cannot believe it’s now been over two years since we first bought our apartment and moved in. Like. THAT IS WILD. My mum and dad were right when they said that your life just flies by when you hit your twenties and it is. I’m 28 this year, getting married next year and I’ll likely be pregnant after my wedding., so yeah…shit is getting real. I wanted to share the things I learn from moving house as an adult because I feel like I’d definitely have more experience and knowledge now.

Having A Car Would Be Useful
I think this is something that’s on our to-buy list for next year and I’m planning on taking driving lessons once we’re out of this crazy lockdown. Having a car would have definitely proved useful for us on our last move and even though my parents came down, our next move will likely be just the two of us. That means that we’ll probably want to have a car where we can drive to our new place and perhaps have the valuables that can fit, in the car with us. So that’s stuff like my MacBooks, cameras, etc. As we’re looking at moving slightly out of London with our next property, it’s important for us to be able to drive so a car would definitely seem like an important purchase to make for 2021.
Pick A Really Good Removals Service
Although our removals service was ok, they did break one of our lamps and as we hadn’t picked an exclusive service where they go directly from your old house to the new one (although I thought I had), the driver didn’t get to us until much later in the day. Next time, I’m definitely going to find a more professional service that’s tailored to perhaps providing packaging because we have a lot more stuff going with us next time and I don’t think cardboard boxes and a bit of bubble wrap is going to cut it somehow. EH1 Removals Edinburgh is the type of quality service that you should want and expect when it comes to moving house.
Buy As Much Packaging As Possible
With packaging for our belongings, we got so many boxes that I definitely thought I’d have enough, if not too many boxes for our stuff. BUT OH BOY WAS I WRONG. There was so much stuff that we had that I just didn’t think about and that meant we were using everything and anything to carry the remaining things into the removal lorry. I think for the next move, I will try and get as many boxes as possible but for the bulkier items like our sofa, desks, and dining table set, we’ll get the removals company to provide the right packaging.
Remember To Declutter Before Moving
Decluttering is something that I wish I had done more of because once we’d sorted through all of the boxes in our spare room, I think we ended up chucking out a considerable amount. Always declutter your home before you pack it up because there’s likely to be belongings that you’ll chuck out at the other end. It also means you’ll start with more of a blank canvas when it comes to your new home.
What would you recommend when moving house? Let me know in the comments below.
