The pandemic has certainly made many people step back and to take a look at their life in many ways. For some, that could be their career and perhaps realising that they’re not in the right place for their own satisfaction and happiness. With that being said, there are some career paths to consider in 2021, that might be useful to think about. As I preach to the masses, life is too short to be unhappy in your job. At the end of the day, it’s something you’re going to spend 1/3 of your life doing so it needs to be enjoyable.

This is something that I can recommend because go figure, I do this as a full-time job. My self-employed career started officially in October 2019 and I’m proud to say that I’ll be approaching the two-year mark of being independently, financially stable. I also have luckily managed to get myself through a pandemic relatively unscathed.
If you’re someone who enjoys writing then I’d very much recommend you try freelance writing or at least blogging, to begin with. With blogging, you can have your own personal platform and there’s the scope for you to write about whatever you want to write about. There are no rules you have to stick to until you start accepting money in return for writing content.
For freelance writing, personally, I started off writing for an agency and then have developed some of my own clients from there. Using platforms like LinkedIn is very useful and I’d recommend using these whilst also cold pitching to businesses who might need content.
Automation
Automation is certainly the future for a lot of things and I believe there are some great careers to be had in automation. If you want to be part of the future, then it’s definitely worth giving this career path some thought. For those who don’t know what automation is, it’s the creation and application of technology that helps produce or deliver goods or services without much human intervention needed.
It’s something that even I’ve started using for my blog in the form of scheduled content and it automatically publishing without me needing to press the publish button! RNA Automation is just one of many companies that are using these technologies and so it’s worth checking them out for more information on how it all works and what jobs might be available in automation. It’s just one of the many career paths in technology that would be exciting to be a part of.
Digital Marketing
A lot of companies nowadays are needing digital marketing, especially if they’re advertising themselves online. There is so much to digital marketing as well that there might be various job roles that suit you more appropriately in this field of marketing. With that, digital marketing has many components from creating video content, improving SEO, and running PPC ads. The list is endless and so it’s worth looking into what type of role would be best fitted for your skillset and needs.
Running Your Own Business
And finally, something I highly recommend to anyone who doesn’t like the idea of working a 9-5, try and run your own business. This will be different and a unique experience for everyone when starting up a company. You might not work as many hours as a typical 9-5 or you might end up working double or triple in order to get your business off the ground.
The beauty of business is that you can try again and again until you get that money-making idea that ends up being successful. Brainstorm what’s been done and where there might be a gap in the market. There are still plenty of opportunities out there to take advantage of.
If starting a business from scratch is not suitable for you, but you are seeking the fulfillment of becoming an entrepreneur, consider buying a franchise. This will allow you to be in business for yourself but not by yourself, as you will have access to a support network of experts guiding you through the steps to business success.
