12 Must-Haves For Your Next Adventure

Whether you’re heading off on a family holiday or want to discover yourself by taking a solo trip around the world, you still need to pack properly. Experienced travellers already know the ins and outs of what to pack, but considering no one has had the chance to travel for a while, you might feel a little rusty.

And with how much things have changed, even before you were confined to your home, travel essentials might not be the same as they were the last time you went away. There are things like comfort and convenience to consider; you need to think about emergencies and make your trip as hassle-free and enjoyable as possible. From your luggage to your back pocket, here are twelve must-haves for your next adventure.

All Your Travel Documents and Details

You won’t be able to get anywhere if you don’t bring your travel documents. This is something you need to sort out at least six months before you go anywhere, as you might not be permitted to fly if your passport expires in less than six months.

Besides this, you’ll need travel insurance and any vaccinations for specific countries along with proof of this vaccination. Some documents are important even if you’re not leaving the country. Breakdown cover for your car, any registration details, and information about your emergency contact so they can be alerted should you need them.

Clothes for All Weather

People will usually take an adventure somewhere sunny to get away from the drab, overcast perpetually of the UK. However, just because you’re going to sunny Spain, Morocco or Thailand doesn’t mean you will enjoy blue skies throughout.

You don’t want to get caught out in a storm or even a sudden, unseasonal chill. So, it’s always best to pack a little extra for other types of weather. A compact but waterproof jacket is a must wherever you go, but you should also bring jumpers or hoodies, and a few long-sleeve shirts to keep you warm once the sun goes down and the temperature drops more sharply than you’d expect.

A Day-Of Bag

Everyone worries about keeping their luggage safe wherever they go, and although this isn’t a problem most of the time, there is always the risk that you will be the last one waiting at the airport watching a lonely carousel going around and around.

You don’t want to be without any clothes for your holiday while you wait for the airline to locate your luggage. To avoid this, put together a day-of bag in everyone’s luggage or even with your carry on. This means you’ll at least have something to change into after you land and you won’t feel like the grossest person around.

A Plan (and a Plan B)

Some people like to stick to a specific schedule when they travel, whereas others will play it by ear and see where the adventure takes them. Despite this, they still have a general idea of what they want to do and see.

Every traveller should have a basic plan about where to go when to go, and what to see when it comes to their adventure. If nothing else, this adds some order and consistency to your travels. On top of this, a Plan B will give you a backup in case of weather problems or unforeseen circumstances. This will help you do something and not feel like you’re wasting a day sitting around in the hotel room.

A Way to Keep In Touch and Get Around

You might remember trips from your childhood where your parents bickered over how to read a map or speak very slowly to the locals to find out where the nearest McDonald’s is. Thankfully, times have changed, and there are easier ways to get around and get your bearings.

If you’re planning an adventure, you can look at Mobile Network reviews for ideas about data allowances while abroad, or you could purchase a SIM in the country if you’re staying for a while. This gives you a consistent data connection and means you can use Maps or call friends and family for a catch-up on a lazy evening.

First Aid Kits

You want to keep everyone safe while you’re on an adventure, and a First Aid Kit is one of the most effective ways to do this, shy or engulfing everyone in bubble wrap. While this approach won’t be ideal for more severe injuries, they can make sure cuts and scrapes don’t get any worse.

Infections can ruin your adventure holiday, as it means you won’t be able to swim or even do any activities that could be more intense than you’re used to. With a First Aid Kit, you have the peace of mind that you can protect your family (and yourself), especially if there isn’t one in the hostel or hotel room.

Some of the Language

If you want to make your trip as straightforward and as comfortable as possible, learning some of the languages will make it easier as soon as you arrive. Whether it’s French, German, Arabic, or Khmer, you will find it much easier to integrate, even if you’re only there for a few weeks.

As soon as you get off the plane or the bus, you can show off your skills when you climb into a taxi. Knowing how to say Hello, along with numbers and a few other basic phrases will make it easier to get around. You can read translation books or use podcasts or apps that can give you some confidence when you land.

Comfortable Accessories

Very few people enjoy the transport side of your adventure. They just want to get there and enjoy themselves. So, you may as well make the transport as comfortable as possible.

Whether you’re travelling by plane, train or automobile, you can make sure you’re comfortable by bringing earplugs, an eye mask, and sliders or slippers to wear on the journey. These accessories give you a bit of a break, but you should also make sure to stretch your legs as often as possible to prevent any soreness and to keep you sane.

Something to Pass the Time

Long flights and car journeys will, eventually, become frustrating, especially if you’re travelling with kids who get restless and fidgety. If you want to avoid this, you can bring different types of entertainment on the trip that you can use to pass the time. A pack of cards (and lots of different games) is a great place to start, but travel board games are another option.

This entertainment can keep you occi[pied for a while and you can use it on lazy nights during your trip. Besides these, books, movies, and TV shows are all ideal as long as you have something to watch them on and enough battery to keep your devices switched on.

Power Banks and Adapters

Speaking of, the last thing you want is for your phone to run out of juice as you enter hour three of a thirteen-hour flight. So, bringing power banks will keep your devices chargers throughout the journey. While some planes and coaches come with USB ports, this isn’t something you should rely on, and the charging speed might not be up to scratch. Likewise, road trips mean you might need to use your phone for directions or playing music, so it’s important to keep your phone charged.

As for your destination, a universal plug adapter will make packing easier and the best products will also come with USB and USB-C ports to ensure your latest iPhone can stay charged.

A Journal or Camera (or Both!)

Everyone wants a way to record their adventure. Your phone camera means you can take as many snaps as you like, whether you like, but if you want better quality, a proper camera or even a GoPro will be perfect for capturing every moment.

Let’s say you’re not someone who posts on social media. Instead, you prefer some introspection. A travel journal is a fantastic way to remember your trip, even if you make small notes at the end of every day. This gives you the chance to look back and reminisce, or even write a blog post about your adventure.

Cosy Clothes for the Flight

It’s no secret that getting comfortable on planes is tricky. Besides switching yourself off from the rest of the passengers with eye masks and earplugs, you can wear joggers or shorts to keep comfortable. However, plane temperatures can feel temperamental. Sometimes you’re too hot and others you’re too cold, so you need to find the perfect balance when deciding what to wear.

Wearing something cosy but breathable will make it easier to get comfortable and you won’t feel you’re suffocating from overheating or are unable to sleep because of the constant chill that is inescapable. If you’re comfortable, you’ll get off the plane feeling much better, which helps get your holiday off on the right foot.

Packed And Prepared

There is no such thing as being too prepared wherever you’re planning your next trip. You could be taking a globetrotting odyssey or simply heading to the seaside for something that’s low on cost but high on effectiveness. With these essentials, you will be prepared for any scenario no matter where you go.
