How To Dress A Window So It Brings In Footfall

For those who own retail businesses, making sure your business thrives this year is crucial. It’s not easy to find success with in-store retail shops anymore. This is particularly due to the influence that the internet has over shopping nowadays with many opting to do it online. Not only that but with the rising costs of living, the cost of rentals and lease on these stores is eye-watering, to say the least.

With that being said, you want to make every effort to attract the attention needed to your store so that you can continue to thrive in this tough climate and industry. The retail industry is booming and it’s one that’s not slowing down. While it may be tough to be successful amongst the competition, it’s an opportunity that can still make you a lot of money.

Make use of attractive lighting

With shop front windows, it’s always good to think about lighting. After all, your shop front windows are not only seen during the day but in the evening too. If you’ve not considered lighting, then you’re going to have your beautiful shop displays plunged into darkness as soon as the sun goes down.

Play around with lighting effects and colours. There are lots of options out there and it’s a great way to help highlight certain features within the display that you want to point out specifically. Attractive lighting makes all the difference when it comes to drawing attention to your windows and this is needed especially during the evening. Even when your store is closed, it can be making an active effort to help draw in new customers who may come back to the store when it’s open.

Focus on colour for emotional influence

Colour is a great way of helping play with the emotions of your customers or those who are simply passing by your shop front. Certain colours evoke certain emotions, so if you’ve yet to give it a go, then you definitely want to take advantage of it. Take a look at this colour guide explanation of what colours influence certain feelings and emotions.

It’s definitely worth taking advantage of if you find yourself losing a lot of footfall due to the colour palettes currently being used, having little to no effect.

Choose the right props

Props are helpful because they often help with telling a story or communicating something about the products you’re selling. They can be handy when you’re trying to communicate across your product campaign. With retail store design, it’s worth bringing in the experts to decorate them or to at least provide lessons to staff on how to decorate a window successfully.

You may find that you want to use the same props for the seasonal times of the year. This can be great for saving a bit of money but don’t let them become too worn that you’re putting old and tatty props in your windows.

Try not to overcomplicate it

When it comes to window dressing, you don’t want to overcomplicate it too much. If you overcomplicate the space you’re dressing in, it may end up feeling and looking cluttered. You want to create a space that’s attractive but simple in its layout.

If you think it’s feeling cluttered, then consider removing some of the props or features to help bring it back to a more appropriately designed window.

Use digital screens to draw the eye

Last but not least, make use of digital screens. Yes, they tend to be a lot more expensive to buy and they may not work for every shop front. However, with digital screens, you can take the slightly lazy way of dressing the shop. You can create your own designs with graphic designers and have multiple ones when using digital screens.
