A perfect guide to perfect skin is the latest book that has come through my letterbox to review. Dr Nick Lowe is an internationally renowned Consultant Dermatologist with over 30 years experience at the cutting edge of new treatments, technology and research. He is a pioneer in botulinum toxin research and studies into skin problems and ageing.
He has the unique advantage of having trained in both the UK and America, and is acknowledged as one of the world’s leading experts in dermatology and skincare. He originally graduated from University of Liverpool Medical School in 1968 and has a long established private practice in London. Dr Lowe is a Clinical Professor of Dermatology at UCLA School of Medicine in Los Angeles, teaching and lecturing in their dermatology programme and, until recently, was Consultant and Senior Lecturer in Dermatology at UCLA School of Medicine in London.
‘80% of the population have suffered from acne at some stage of their lives. Acne can be a frustrating, embarrassing, disfiguring and often painful condition. But today, thanks to extensive research, it doesn’t have to as leading dermatology experts Dr Nick Lowe and Dr Philippa Lowe prove in their new book Perfect Guide to Perfectly Clear Skin.’
I was interested in reading this book because I know quite a few of my friends and probably those of you who read my blog have either experienced acne, currently have it or would like to avoid getting it altogether. Everyone’s skin is different and a solution for one person may not be the same for another. However Dr Nick Lowe’s book (which himself and his daughter co-wrote) gives background information about our skin, the types of acne and ways of preventing or getting rid of acne.
I love the design of the book just as a side note. It’s not too clinical and it’s something that you could read in public without having to worry about anyone noticing what it is your reading. I think it’s a perfect alternative to just sticking a person’s face that’s covered in acne on the front of the book.
Dr Nick Lowe also has a prestigious beauty clinic in London called the Cranley Clinic. Mentioned numerous times in the book, the dermatologist offers a range of treatments that can help treat various degrees of acne as well as having a professional medical team to offer advice and support to those wanting it.
‘Perfect Guide for Perfectly Clear Skin explains the facts and debunks many of the commonly held theories about acne and affirms that, with careful treatment, it need not be a lifelong affliction. Whether a sufferer of acne, or a relative or friend of someone who is, this book provides a wealth of information to improve the condition.
The information in this book is exactly the same information we share with our patients. As doctors, we want to be able to help others outside of our clinic and this book allows us to do so, observes Dr Nick Lowe.’
I’m definitely going to hand this over to my friends who I feel will definitely benefit from this advice. It is more than likely that everyone will suffer from acne at some point in their life and this little nugget of a book is perfect for banishing the myths and helping you feel good in your skin.
