No mother should ever have to bury a child, in fact no child should ever go before their parent. It’s a terrifying and life-sobering thought that no one is truly invincible in this this world. Dylan Day, a close friend of my brother who he played football with, passed away from flu which had led to sepsis. He was just 12 years old.
I mean, let that sink in. 12 years old. And Dylan unfortunately isn’t the only one. Very recently, a 9 year old child has passed away from the flu which brings the total victims of the killer virus to 191.
Dylan’s battle was short and his mum mentioned that he really suffered. That part just breaks my heart. This was a healthy boy who loved football, was polite and had a supportive and loving family around him.
The article I saw online had a picture of him in his school uniform and what probably looked like his first day. I can remember the photos my brothers both had as did I on our first days at high school and it just makes it even more gut-wrenching.
Dylan was just 12 years old and no child deserves to lose their life when it hasn’t even begun. I feel so much pain for his family and I cannot imagine the grief they currently have and will continue to go through.
I wanted to make a post to try and reach out to those around the blogging community, friends and family members and also the wider world of the web to ask for donations.
Dylan’s family have set up a JustGiving page to raise funds in memory of Dylan. This will help his family immensely so if you can give anything, I’m sure it will make a big difference.
Rest in peace Dylan, you were taken far too soon but like many, you’ll never be forgotten. Hold your loved ones close. We’re never guaranteed a tomorrow.
