What You Need To Watch On Netflix Right Now

I freaking love Netflix. The amount of content that they’ve churned out in the past few years has been incredible. They just announced that the price of it is going up by a mere £1 and there’s outrage. However, I think it’s certainly worth the extra pound and more. There has been so much that I’ve enjoyed recently that I wanted to do a big-ass list of everything that you need to watch on Netflix right now. And grab a cup of tea, coffee, wine – whatever beverage you want – because it’s a long one.

Netflix

The OA

The OA is a bit of an Inception-style series, where it follows Prairie Johnson, a young woman who returns home after disappearing for 7 years. It’s quite complex in what’s going on and some of it is hella trippy but it’s such an interesting concept of life beyond life itself. It’s all about alternate universes and that’s something that I think a lot of people love because none of us really know why we’re here right? I mean I’m getting way to deep right now so just go and watch it. I’ve just finished season two and I cannot wait for the next season to be released already.

Queer Eye

As it’s still pride month, you should totally take advantage of this series and binge watch it because it just makes my soul feel so good. It’s one of those shows that I’d happily watch on repeat because if you’ve had a shitty day, this show makes you feel good about life. What I love about it is that it’s so raw and emotional both from the guys who host the show but also to the people whose lives they change. They’re not trying to change who they are but instead, they are trying to encourage them to get the most out of life because everyone deserves that at the end of the day. No matter your skin colour, who you love and what you believe in.

Killer Ratings

This is one that I’ve actually just finished watching and mate, I was hooked, line and sinker. If you love Making a Murderer or The Staircase, then you’ll love Killer Ratings. It’s one of those documentaries where the only person who really knows the truth, is the one that’s accused or now dead. It’s our fascination with trying to understand a mystery. Killer Ratings is about a guy called Wallace Souza, a TV personality and politician that was accused of organising killings to boost his television show’s ratings. I mean it’s a new level of fucked up and you need to watch it and then tell me if you think he was responsible. I’m currently sat on the fence.

Jane The Virgin

Yes, I know, I’m way behind on this but Jane The Virgin IS SO DAMN GOOD. Why did I not watch this sooner?! I also now just want to watch a load of Telenovelas because this has had me hooked for the past few weeks. I’m still only on Season 1 and I realise there’s many more to get through. So if you need me, I won’t be available as I’m watching a gazillion more episodes of Jane The Virgin.

My Next Guest – with David Letterman

So I wasn’t old enough to enjoy David Letterman when he had his talk show and there’s the small point of me not living in the US. However, I am aware of who he is and from clips that I watched before his retirement from the show, I found him to be such a warm and loveable person. He’s had a series released recently on Netflix called My Next Guest – with David Letterman obvs. He’s interviewed a few people and it’s an intimate look into that person’s lives, some information of which I didn’t know about that person in question. The three I’ve watched so far are Kayne, Ellen DeGeneres and Lewis Hamilton. I must say, the most interesting one is Kanye. There’s definitely a lot of layers to that guy that certainly makes more sense in this interview and helps me understand why he has the personality he has.

Girls Incarcerated

Criminals are so interesting and if I didn’t head down the path of drama, I think I would have done psychology and gone into the criminal side of psychology because I just find it so interesting. What makes these people tick, why do they behave that way and is it always to do with a certain upbringing or is it a biological thing. This documentary looks at a correctional facility in Madison and at girls who have been incarcerated due to committing crimes or having been sent there by their worried parents or guardians. It’s certainly an interesting watch and to be honest, I just felt sorry for these girls and a heightened sense of appreciation for my own upbringing and how good it was in comparison.

Nailed It

After watching every episode of The Great British Bake Off backwards – I know, I totally regret it as I had to watch Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood age backwards and also the filming quality of the show too. ANYWAY, Nailed It is my new favourite show and it recently released another season, which had me gagging with laughter.

Homecoming

Who doesn’t want a Beyonce documentary? I don’t know about you but every single she’s released since the whole Jay-Z cheating scandal, has been incredible. You can tell she puts so much of her life into those songs and Homecoming at Coachella in 2018. I remember watching the performance online and I couldn’t get over the production of the performance itself and how crazily good both her singing and dancing was. She never fails to impress me and she’s the one person I would pay a lot to see in concert.  I also love living by the motto ‘You have the same amount of hours in the day as Beyonce‘, so there’s no excuse not to work hard.
