Trying Out Microdermabrasion | with SkinBase

I’m definitely embracing my skincare routine with open arms and I think as I get older, the need to treat myself and to give myself some well-deserved self care is important. So when I got the opportunity to work with SkinBase, a provider of microdermabrasion that works with over 2,000 salons across the UK, I was obviously going to say yes. Trying out microdermabrasion is something I’ve always wanted to try out but been a little nervous to do so.

The salon I was going to was based near London Bridge and it’s actually a building next door to somewhere I occassionally did temping at. I find myself having these pinch me moments of when I used to work in London doing jobs that paid little money and now I get opportunities like the Debenhams Jingle Ball (where I also used to work on the boxes in Wembley stadium) and ones like this where I get pampered.

The microdermabrasion treatment sounds scary AF but actually, I had very little to be nervous or scared of. I remember the moment before Alex – the therapist at Dermaesthetics Clinic – was about to use the tool on my skin and part of me wanted to scream in terror. I’m so dramatic I know.

Anyway, I arrive at the building and make my way up the the clinic which is just a room in a corporate building. It’s the same for where I get my back massage and that’s simply because to own a building in London would set you back so much money. That’s not somthing everyone can afford, so I totally get it!

Alex was very accomodating, asking me what I’d like from the treatment and my expectations. She cleaned my face with an oil product that removed any dirt or bacteria that was sitting on the top layer of my skin. She then followed that up with a cream before she went in with the tool itself.

Skincare Treatment

I grabbed a picture before I started the process and sadly I didn’t manage to take any pictures while the treatment was going on. However I did manage to film a bit of the process for my Instagram. The device itself looked just like a pen but that was filled with tiny white crystals and had a suction tip at the end of it. The machine made a bit of noise which I think was what probably made me nervous. However, once the tool touched the surface of my skin, all that anxiety just ebbed away.

If I could describe what it feels like, I’d say it was like having a slightly abrasive scrub. I certainly suffer from sensitive skin but this was nowhere near the amount of discomfort that I thought I’d feel. It wasn’t painful and in fact, it was actually quite relaxing!

Microdermabrasion

The whole process took around an hour, so it’s something that can likely be done between running errands or even on an extended lunch break. Alex worked the device all over my face and my neck was also included in this. I was happy she did this as I’ve learnt from other skincare bloggers that it’s always important to treat the neck as well as the face.

I really enjoyed the treatment and I think it’s a lovely treat to give yourself every so often. You can get micodermabrasion from one to eight weeks depending on your skin’s tolerence for it. I think this is something I’d love to get every few months and I’m certainly going to get it done as part of the pampering for my wedding. My skin afterwards was a little red but a few days after my treatment, my skin definitely feel plump and glowy.

Thanks SkinBase for inviting me along, you’ve got one happy customer who will certainly be back soon! What do you think of microdermabrasion? Have you ever had it before? Let me know in the comments below.
