I have always been a fast typer but I certainly found that after testing my skills in Typing To The Test, I make more mistakes than I think I do and that inevitably slows me down. It’s interesting to me whenever I’ve seen job openings in the past where they either request a certain typing speed or they end up testing your typing ability during the interview. That says a lot about how important computers are within a working environment is and how you need to have an understanding of how to use one.
I got an email from a marketing company who wanted to see if I could beat them in a typing speed test called Typing To The Test. I lost.
I definitely tend to panic a bit under the pressure, especially when there’s a time limit. The translation between what I’m seeing and then what I’m typing seems to go a bit skew-whiff but hey we can’t always be perfect. The guy who challenged me got 30 and I scored an impressive 26. You have 60 seconds to type out as many words as you can and you can pick a topic that shows words from that category. It shows a variety of word lengths so I think 26 words with just a minute on the clock is pretty good right?
And then they asked if I was willing to share this with my readers. At first, I thought that maybe I should just write a tweet but it got me thinking that actually, maybe my readers could benefit from testing their typing skills. In this ever-changing world where technology dominates a lot of the things that we do in life, it’s beneficial to you to maintain your skills when using a computer. For me, as I’m going self-employed in September, it would be beneficial to work on my typing speed because I’ve got a hectic schedule planned out where I’ll need to be able to work quickly.
So now I pose a challenge to you, my readers. It only takes a minute so make sure you’ve fuelled up on coffee and that you have no distractions around you. How many words do you think you could write in a minute? I picked the category TV Shows but there’s plenty to choose from including Sports, Cities, and Food as some other examples.
So try the Typing Game and let me know in the comments how many you score. Try to beat me if you can!
