As someone who loves food, everytime I get an opportunity to go out and review somewhere, I’m never left disappointed. I want to hope that perhaps my luck will continue to perservere. Anyway, I recently got invited to Cocina, a Mexican restuarant in Uxbridge. Uxbridge isn’t too far from me, yet this was the first time I was visiting. I need to take Sam there when we get a chance because it looks like a lovely place.
I visited Cocina with my family at the end of October as they were staying with me and staying true to my promise of taking mum out whenever I have a blog event or collaboration, I invited them to come along. So Cocina very kindly paid for all our food and that was very gracious of them to do so, seeing as it was only mean to be complimentary for two people. I got chatting to the manager Louis, who actually looked after us very well. He told me that he’d be brought over from Mexico to spend some time building the Cocina franchise. There are a number of Cocina’s across the country but I’m pretty sure this one is the only one within the London area.
So my parents and my youngest brother were running late due to transport problems within London – standard London transport, so I got myself the two for £10 cocktail option and boy were these Strawberry Daiquiris strong. They didn’t hold back on the rum and hey, not complaining. This was also fresh out of being at full-time work and freelancing, so I was still celebrating in a way.
Fueled up on rum, I set one aside for my mum to enjoy because otherwise I was going to be tipsy and I hadn’t eaten yet. For food, I decided to hand pick a load of dishes that we could all pick and eat from, except for Alfie who had tacos. The menu is super affordable but damn the food is so good. I love tapas style food – so does my mum – and so I grabbed a variety and hopefully I can remember from the pictures below what we had. There are however a couple of dishes missing and these were the Fiery Wings in Hot Sauce and the Cocina’s Meatballs which Louis said were hot. I actually found the chicken wings a lot hotter and my dad thought the same.
From left to right – Chicken Tinga Tostadas, Tacos (Alfie’s), Halloumi Fries, Pulled Pork Quesadillas, Baby Back Ribs and King Prawn Skewers.
All the food was really delicious, flavourful and above all, filling. Whenever tapas comes out, you think you’d be fighting over the food but everyone I’ve eaten with, ends up being very curteous and conscious of making sure everyone’s had a least one of everything. Everything tasted as though it was fresh and because I thought the prices were really affordable, my first assumption was that a lot of it would simply be warmed up from frozen. But no, everything tasted as though it had been freshly made. A lot of care had gone into the presentation and how everything was positioned on the table.
My family had a really lovely time and I’m thrilled to have found this place in Uxbridge because now I definitely want to go back. What do you think of this delicious feast from Cocina? Let me know in the comments below.
