It’s nice to see people getting out and being active, despite the situation we’re all in and hopefully the few people who still find it acceptable to go to the beach or local park and spend a few hours sunbathiing, will see sense and not ruin it for us all. My emotions during the lockdown have been up and done. One day I was fine, the next day I lacked all motivatation. It went like this until we had our first PT session at home for the first time in two weeks and oh my days did it feel so good. It made me realise that fitness helps me to feel better and as a result, we’re upping our sessions to two a week while both of us are working from home. We’re saving money, so it might as well go to a good place right? With that being said, I wanted to share with you how I’m trying to stay fit & healthy at home, amongst the boredom and temptation to eat and drink my weight in food and alcohol.
This is a collaborative post.
Wear Your Active Wear To Get Motivated
It’s something I’ve noticed recently whenever I need to work out and I don’t feel inspired to do so. And even though I will find it beneficial deep down, it’s hard to get to that point mentally where you want to work out. I’ve found that wearing my active wear more often is inspiring me to get fit more. I’ve also invested in more active wear over the past few months in order to keep me motivated. There’s a real difference in how it makes me feel, especially when this fitness gear is making me look and feel confident in my body. So next time you want to work out but don’t have that mindset, get out of your pyjamamas or comfies and get into your active wear.
Limit Snacks
Snacks were the problem initially for us. We never had any snacks really to begin with and it was really the alcohol and eating out that made us gain weight. During this lockdown, we’ve bought quite a few snacks over the past few weeks and these are more than what we’d typically get. We both realised this on the second week into lockdown and from then on, we’ve been very picky with what we buy for the home. We’ve got very little in the way of snacks now and I’ll tell myself when I look in the cupboards that I’m eating out of boredom and not hunger. You shouldn’t cut out snacks completely, just take control of the amount you get. There are also a lot of meal replacement options if you’re trying to cut down on the amount of calories you have per day too.
Cut Out Bad Habits
Bad habits are things like smoking, where you’re likely going to do a lot more of it when working from home. Battling bad habits can allow you to stay fit & healthy too. You don’t have the same restrictions that you would when it comes to your workplace and that can enable you to take advantage of it more. Therefore, try to cut out those bad habits and give your body the opportunity to ween itself off of cigarettes by perhaps starting off with vaping instead. Short-fill calculators are very popular to use and so it’s worth getting vape kits to see if it works as a substitute for you. Making sure you’re looking after your dental hygiene and not eating or drinking too much that’s going to damage your teeth is essential. Your teeth and gums are important too, so make sure you don’t start any bad habits at home just because you’re not seeing anyone.
Find Exercise You Enjoy
Exercise is one thing that is different for everyone. It would be weird if everyone in this world like the same sport or did the same exercise. But the fact is that everyone is different and therefore the form of exercise you enjoy doing is going to be unique to you. For me, I actually love boxing and would love to join a boxing class once I’m up to a level of fitness where I can manage it – perhaps after all this coronavirus is over! I also like more weighted exercises, rather than doing cardio or running. However, my dad for example, he loves running and finds pure enjoyment from it. So if you’re struggling to find what you love, experiment with different options in order to stay fit & healthy.
Try To Drink Low-Calorie Alcohol
And finally – alcohol. Alcohol is the comfort for some of us during this time, who enjoy a glass of wine or a pint of beer. However, both of those things are high in calories and that’s what causes you to put on more weight. As well as controlling what you drink, it might be worth trying some low-calorie alcohol whether that’s gin, vodka or rum. By having low-calorie alcohol, you can afford to have a little more.
How are you coping during this lockdown when you’re trying to stay fit & healthy? Let me know in the comments below.
