– GIFTED COLLABORATION –
When it comes to bags, my mantra is the bigger the better. I really don’t understand how it’s possible to fit my life into a small handbag that at the most will fit my purse and phone in. I’m sorry but like many things in my life, I like to be extra. Butterfly Tree are a brand that create handmade bags in Yorkshire.
Ever since starting the blog, I loved working with brands that were either independently owned or were a small business. This was because I was dealing with the brand (normally the founder) directly and the content therefore was more free-flowing for me because I’d know more about the brand than just the products themselves.
Launched in 2015, the company was founded by part-time ballet teacher Claire Shakespeare (great last name) and her first bags were created from the most basic of equipment in Claire’s home, on her kitchen table. Since then her brand has exploded and her pieces can be found in several stockists across the country including John Lewis.
What makes these bags special is that they’ve all been handcrafted using quality Yorkshire wool and leather. The care that has gone into these bags is apparent both with the tote bag and the coin purse I got sent.
The Lucy Tote Bag comes in a range of colours and styles, along with a matching coin purse that’s detachable from the bag. I love this colour combination and the blue wool reminds me of a picnic blanket. The inner lining is a beautiful psychedelic pattern and the tote bag is the perfect size for fitting everything but the kitchen sink in it.
The stitching is very personal and I like how the logo on both the bag and purse are big enough but not too overpowering that it ruins the look of them.
I think it’s the perfect bag to be sporting this Summer and I can see myself using it many a time to carry a bounty of picnic goodies for trips to our local park. I think the part-time ballet teacher in Claire definitely comes through with the practicality of her range. It’s all very versatile and durable which I think is needed for those yummy mummies and for the bag over loader like myself.
The price of this bag and detachable purse is £125.00, definitely a little pricier than most high-street brands but you’re paying for the quality and the care taken with these bags. They’re not mass produced and can even be personalised at your request to make them even more personable.
A few of my other favourites from the range are the Melissa Clutch and the Sarah Backpack is hella cute. I hope that Claire’s brand continues to produce many more beautifully hand-made bags that will bring much joy to her customers in the future.
